Shillong, Jan 03: The Breakaway faction of the A’chik National Volunter Council (ANVC) has expressed its aspiration to join the “Historic Settlement” only if the settlement benefits all the grey areas of the state.
While stating that ANVC(B)’s focus has always been the Garo people and the Garo dominated areas which undoubtedly will continue to be so, the Chairman of the outfit, Rimpu N. Marak pointed out that there are also places in Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills which need as much attention as the Garo Hills.

“The ‘Historic Settlement’ should benefit the common man and bring changes at the grassroot level,” he said adding “We want introduction of Grassroot democracy and strengthening of Village Government.”
The state needs to consider a mechanism which will empower people and bring changes to these areas with direct funding from the central government, demanded Rimpu.
He highlighted that 80 percent of the total population of the state is struggling everyday against various odds.
“These are the facts that have to be on the priority list if we are trying to see positive results of this settlement. Our people and our areas are our priorities; however the same benefit should flow down to all the councils of the state as today we are not looking at cessation but rather to be partners in productive development of our own areas. Therefore, we are ready to join the peace pact if settlement benefits all the three councils of the state,” the leader of the Breakaway faction said.
