One murdered over land dispute, six arrested

Shillong, Oct 29:
One Losber Pyngrope was on Monday morning murdered at Thangbnai village under Madanrting Police station.
Police informed that the murder took place over a land dispute.
Six people have been arrested in connection to the murder, with the victim body being recovered from one of the accused person’s house.
The six arrested have been identified as Phransngi Pyngrope (23), Mong Pyngrope (23) Rojak Pyngrope (22), Philis Pyngrope (26), Speak Pyngrope (45) and Saian Kshiar (75).
According to police, Losber had land dispute with Speak while his dead body was recovered from Saian’s house.

Meghalaya Dancing Troupes Demand Institution

After several attempts to get the attention of the Chief Minister, the All Meghalaya Dancers Association (AMDA) Monday finally were able to hand over a memorandum seeking the state government’s  initiative to set up a dancing institution for promoting the talented youth through teaching and training.
The memorandum, signed by AMDA President Kitbok Thabah and General Secretary Diana Khyriem, pointed to the fact that although there are many talented boys and girls who are adept in dancing, a proper institution for further is required for “developing the technique as well as preserving the culture of the people of the state.”

WKSU elects new office bearers

The West Khasi Students Union (WKSU), Mawkyrwat held their first annual meeting on October 26 last at Mawkyrwat Mawlangwir Indoor stadium, Mawkyrwat.
During the meeting new office bearers of the organization were elected.
NEHU Vice Chancellor, Prof AN Rai graced the occasion as Chief Guest in the presence of Principal of Sngap Singh College, Prof Marboh, and others.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rai stressed on the student’s community to focus on students’ related issues and refrain from agitation programme or other such pressure group activities. He urged them to put forward their keen interest towards the development of the upcoming youths through educational values.
Mentionably, the annual meet of the student Union is to strengthen its units across the West and South West Khasi Hills.
This was the first meeting of the students union after the creation of the South East Khasi Hills District from West Khasi Hills. As a unification of Unions in both the South and West Khasi Hills district, the Union has dropped the word "Hills" from its name, and rechristened the Union as ‘West Khasi Students Union’ with Nongstoin as its headquarter.

State Level Workshop on e-Procurement held

Shillong, Oct 29: A One Day State Level Workshop for Government Officials on Government e-Procurement System of NIC (GePNIC) organized by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) Shillong in collaboration with State Information and Technology, Department, Government of Meghalaya was held Monday at Information and Technology building, Shillong.
Meghalaya Chief Secretary, WMS Pariat inaugurated the workshop in the presence of Commissioner  & Secretary, Information Technology Department, DP Wahlang, IIS, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, Er S Bhardwaj, State Informatics Officer, T Dkhar.

Food Ministers meet to Review PDS

New Delhi, Oct 29: States Food Ministers will meet in New Delhi on Tuesday to review Public Distribution System (PDS) and to consider measures to further strengthen it. The meeting will discuss ways to improve off take of food grains by the states, increasing the viability of Fair Price Shops (FPSs), doorstep delivery of food grains at FPS, improving intermediate storage capacity and direct transfer of the food subsidy to the consumers.
