STP to clamp illegally parked vehicles from today

In its bid to tackle the menace of illegal parking or parking at ‘no parking’ zones, Shillong Traffic Police (STP) have acquired clamping devices to clamp al such vehicles starting Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, East Khasi Hills (EKH) Superintendent of Police (SP) M Kharkhrang informed that the clamping devices will be put to use initially on jurisdictions under Sadar Police station and Laitumkhrah Police station. And by next week, these devices will be used all the police stations in the city.

Rowell happy on young leaders aspiring to be ‘public representatives’

With at least five candidates all set to battle against the sitting legislator from Mawkyrwat constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections next year, Rowell Lyngdoh also the Deputy Chief Minister Monday said he is happy that young leaders are coming up to take up the responsibility to be “public representatives”.
Lyngdoh, also senior leader of the Congress, added, “As competitors we all share equal hopes and that is to ‘win’.”

HLC to refer to findings of Mawlong’s team on ILP

SHILLONG, Oct 29:
The High Level Committee (HLC) on Influx, which is scheduled to hold its next meeting on Tuesday, is likely to discuss on the report of the fact finding team constituted during the time of the former Chief Minister (L) EK Mawlong on Inner Line Permit (ILP).
The High Level Committee is headed by Deputy Chief Minister Bindo M Lanong. The high level committee on influx in its last meeting had stressed on the need for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and decided to refer back to the report of the fact finding team.

ANVC(B) urges ‘sensible people’ to bring peace to Garo Hills

ANVC(B) has urged ‘sensible people’ to come out and take initiative to bring peace and normalcy to Garo Hills (GH).
“On this context, we are sending notes to various leaders of the society who we believe can play a vital role in transforming Garo Hills without needing to shed blood,” an official statement from the outfit said on Monday.

GNLA linkman apprehended on border

On October 28, at about 11:15 am, BSF troops deployed in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya apprehended one GNLA Linkman named Dansalrang Brahnoa, resident of Bardal village, Besorkona, Lakhipur, Goalpara district, Assam, while he was trying to infiltrate into Bangladesh.
During search, party seized a GNLA Demand note,     01 Mobile along with 02 Indian SIM cards from his possession.
Besides above, in another incident, BSF troops of BOP Lyngkhat Ex-108 Bn deployed in East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized 14 Cattle approximately worth Rs 1,04,700 while being smuggled into Bangladesh, during the last twenty four hours.
Apprehended persons and seized items have been handed over to concerned department for further disposal and legal action as per law of the land.
