SHILLONG, Oct 31:
Meghalaya and Assam on Wednesday decided to have ‘information sharing’ exercises between the two states to bridge the communication gap while addressing the issue relating to inter-state boundary disputes.
The decision was taken at the nodal officers level meeting was held on Wednesday between the two neighboring states, wherein, besides the inter-state boundary dispute, the issue of militancy was also taken up.
“Sharing of information is one of most important issues taken up to ensure that whatever information from the top reaches the field level,” State Commissioner & Secretary of Home, Jopthiaw Lyngdoh told reporters after the meeting here.

Certain legislators keeping in touch with GNLA: Meghalaya DGP

SHILLONG, Oct 31:
Outgoing Meghalaya Director General of Police (DGP) N Ramachandran Wednesday revealed that there are certain legislators keeping in touch with the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) but that is at individual capacity and not at party level. Even though he asserted that Meghalaya police will take stern action against anyone having “nexus” with any militant outfits.
Talking to reporters on his last day in office, he said, “There were instances that certain legislators have been keeping in touch with the outfit (GNLA),” adding “But that is only on individual capacity but not at the party level.”

ANVC(B) predicts end of Purno’s political career

Predicting the political journey of GHADC CEM Purno K Sangma, ANVC(B) on Wednesday announced that the Council Chief will soon find himself at a dead-end in his political career.
The breakaway faction said it based the claim on Sangma being ‘disturbed and insecure’.
In a press communiqué, it said, “Somebody thought ANVC(B) will go desperate and try to prove its capability if PK Sangma does not resign, in the process create another terrorist out of revolutionists.”

Police energies and efforts focused in Garo Hills: Ramachandran

“Garo Hills region of the State has been reeling under militancy, most of our energies and efforts have been focused in that direction, towards building up the capabilities of the police for fighting militancy and terrorism” said Meghalaya Director General of Police N Ramachandran while addressing his farewell parade here on Wednesday morning at Police Training School.

CSWO lambasts Minister, lists out anomalies in PDS

Reacting to Meghalaya Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Dr RC Laloo’s claim of the state lifting its PDS quota for the last six months and distributing it among the AP, BPL and AAY families, Civil Society Women’s Organization (CSWO) Wednesday said, “There are many cases filed against the dealers who have deprived the people of their quota of Rice and action is not taken yet in most cases by the Administration.”
Lambasting the Minister for allegedly making a false statement during the conference of Food Ministers in New Delhi, CSWO President Agnes Kharshiing said, “So stating in New Delhi that all the beneficiaries are receiving PDS is false, and there is a rise in such violations of the Supreme Court Order. The PDS is lifted no doubt but diverted to the pockets of the few in Power.”
