Police nab HPF members for extortion in city

Shillong, Dec 29:
Police on Thursday evening nabbed three members of Hynniewtrep People’s Federation (HPF) from an eateries join in Police Bazaar allegedly for demanding money.
The three persons have been identified as Gordan C Khongsit, Marshall Wahlang, and Kitborlang Lyngdoh.
The trio had gone to renowned eateries (name withheld) and told its manager that they were members of HPF and to tell its owner to arrange money. Without disclosing the amount, the trio informed the manager that they will be back after sometime and discuss the money matter with the owner only.
However, when they came back, a team of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) commandos led by Addl SP (City) Vivek Syiem had already laid a trap and were waiting to nab them.
Apprising that the trio has recently been released from the jail, Syiem informed that the police recovered other receipt books from the trio which they had collected from various businessmen in city.
Police also seized a maroon colored Maruti car which was used by the trio.
