HDFC, Shillong disregard local culture, custom
Staff Reporter
Shillong, Dec 29:
Despite Friday being U Kiang Nangbah’s death anniversary, the HDFC bank’s branch in Shillong has told its employees that the Friday is a normal working day.
Every year, December 30 is observed as State holiday in Meghalaya, in respect of the great patriot and a prophet, who fought the britishers for the freedom of his motherland.
The directive was issued by the Brach Manager on Thursday through SMS. The directive read “Tomorrow (Friday) is normal working day. All are instructed to come to the office. You will have to focus on SB (Saving Bank) numbers and LI (Life Insurance). Minimum 2 SB and 50K LI – targets for tomorrow”.
It is worth mentioning that HDFC bank, Shillong branch’s has been notorious with ingesting many ATM cards which could never be retrieved, whereas its attendance to its customers has been one of the worst when talking about addressing grievances of ATMs and online transactions.
Also, the central government offices and nationalized banks have all issued a circular to comply with all the state specific holidays and bandhs.
This directive of the bank has irked its employees, who contend that the bank does not respect local culture and custom.
