In one of the major breakthrough by the Meghalaya Police by getting the custody of Garo militant outfit in the state, Chairman of the Garo terrorist outfit – Garo National Army Liberation (GNLA) Champion R Sangma, former deputy superintendent of police-turned-rogue. But, the way he was handed over to the Meghalaya Police superseding the Central Government and Central Intelligent have spurs up confusion across all ranks and files.
Champion who is also the co-founding member of the GNLA was pushed back to India by Bangladesh authorities early Monday morning. He was arrested from an apartment in Dhaka last November during a routine raid conducted by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) - a security agency of Bangladesh based on intelligence-inputs they received from India.
Interestingly, the Border Security Forces (BSF) in the state however denied their involvement in the handing over process. This has raised questions as to how Champion landed in the custody of the state police without the knowledge of the BSF which is guarding porous international border in the state.
