Woman among 10 arms traders arrested in Garo Hills

TURA, March 05: Ten persons, including a woman, were arrested from the districts of West and North Garo Hills on Thursday after the police apprehended them when they were about to buy arms for the Achik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF). The police also found an amount of Rs 2 lakhs from two of the people apprehended which was meant for payment for the weapon.
Later the North Garo Hills (NGH) police arrested another 8 persons and recovered a pistol from the eight after they got information about them.

The woman arms dealer, identified as Senitha D Marak (30) is a resident of Williamnagar in East Garo Hills (EGH) and was arrested from Rongkhon on the outskirts of Tura along with an 18 year old Simeon G Momin, along with an amount of Rs 2 lakhs.
Upon interrogation, she revealed the names of more of her accomplices. The information was then shared with the NGH police after which the police first arrested two persons on a bike bearing registration AS 18-8905 from Kosichora under Bajengdoba Police Station (PS) in NGH.
Their arrest and information provided led to the arrest of another six members of the same group who were apprehended with one pistol from in Gosingpita, also under Bajengdoba PS.
“They were on their way to supply arms to Simeon Momin (Matsram) and Senitha. Simeon is a surrendered cadre of the Achik National Liberation Army (ANLA). The weapons were to be delivered to Jack. They were working as a team and were freelance suppliers to militants. They were arrested at about 4:30 pm today (Thursday)”, said the Superintendent of Police (SP) of NGH, JFK Marak.
The eight have been identified as Saoram S Sangma (36), Jonang M Sangma (25), Lakin Marak (20), Sandep Momin (25), Batcham Sangma (31), Singjikar Sangma (19), Maman Sangma (25), Joyston Marak (33).
