SHILLONG, July 02: While the dust of the Shillong unrest has momentarily settled and the state police is zeroing down on those who are believed to have sponsored the unrest, fresh inputs have been received which suggest that some elements are still trying create trouble.
Speaking about the prevailing law and order situation, East Khasi Hills SP, Davis Marak said that curfew is being imposed in the city as a precautionary measure since police have some inputs that some elements are trying to make use of the situation by creating problems. “Past experiences of Police say that such incidents happen at night and hence police don’t want to let the guard down,” the SP said.

He however added that the situation has improved but police are keeping a watch on the situation to prevent criminal elements from taking advantage of the situation.
On the claim of the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma that the unrest was sponsored, the police chief said that they have leads of people known for instigating and that these people are being questioned by the police.
“We have inputs and evidence about the involvement of those instigators and while some have been issued notices we are recording the statements of the others,” the SP said
He also informed that filing of charge sheet against those people will take time as the situation is still volatile and investigation is incomplete.
