SHILLONG, Jan 19: Former MLA and one of the BJP’s prominent probable candidates for the 2018 state elections, AL Hek has said that the National People’s Party (NPP) has no other option but to forge a post poll alliance with the BJP to form the government in Meghalaya.
Of late, a lot of speculation was doing the rounds of the two parties joining forces, however it was unclear as to whether this would be a pre-poll or a post-poll alliance.

Putting the speculations to rest, Hek said on Friday that it will be very much a post poll alliance and the Congress will also break and join the BJP. “This is not a surprise and everybody will jump to form the government with the BJP,” Hek had said.
It may be mentioned that Congress Mahila chief, Sushmita Dev  had recently during her visit to the state termed the NPP as team B of the BJP while stating that voting for NPP would mean voting for BJP.
Claiming that it will be a BJP led government in alliance with the NPP and other likeminded parties in 2018, Hek said that there is no choice for NPP but to form the government with the BJP, but now they have to play their own role.
“BJP is contesting on its own and NPP is contesting on its own and when we will form the government we will take all the likeminded people, but the government will be led by the BJP,” said Hek.
Speaking about the BJP chief ministerial candidate, Hek said, “I am a hundred percent sure it will be a BJP led government in Meghalaya this time and I being selected as the leader of the BJP in Meghalaya and if the party feels I should lead, I am ready for it”.
The NPP is a part of the BJP-led national alliance NDA and also part of the BJP-led government in Manipur.
