However, the ongoing construction work of the drain has received a lot of criticism from several quarters as the work has created a lot of inconveniences to the public due to heavy traffic jam in this area.
“Bear with us, within one month the construction will be completedâ€, Urban Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh appealed to public after conducting an inspection to the site of the construction at Don Bosco here on Tuesday.
Recalling those experiences from such calamities wherein the area has lost three precious lives due to floods in the past, the Minister expressed that she does not want to further delay the construction of the drain as the people themselves who are going to be the sufferers when such calamities from floods hit the area.
She further informed, “The intention to move ahead with the construction of the drain is to prevent the recurrent of floods which was there for the last 15 yearsâ€.
The drain which is about 200 meter has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 73 lakh.
“This is part of the efforts taken up by the department to prevent from frequent floods in the areaâ€, the Minister added.
